Online talk and Q&A with Illustrator and author Melissa Castrillon

Melissa Castrillon is an English and Colombian illustrator based in the southeast of England. She has illustrated over 10 picture books for children, which have been translated into more than 20 languages worldwide.
As well as spending a large chunk of her days illustrating and writing picture books for children she also illustrates and designs book covers for readers of all ages. Melissa is motivated by punchy colour combos, inventive compositions, ingenious page design and unusual patterns. She also takes inspiration from wandering around old antique shops and travelling to Colombia where bright woven crafts and fantastical plants help feed her sketchbooks and create new designs.
In 2019 she won the society of illustrators Gold medal in New York for her wordless picture book The Balcony and that same year she was asked to illustrate and create new book cover designs for Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials series. Melissa also loves to screenprint and sell her work online, she hopes to one day own her own shop where she can sell and surround herself with all the beautifully designed things she can make and find!
Join Melissa to hear about her process and inspirations. She will be discussing her work and her inspirations and how she illustrates and writes her books. There will be a Q&A opportunity after the talk.
The event will be held online via ZOOM – the link will be sent to you directly via email on the day of the talk around 5pm UK time.
