NIKI DE SAINT PHALLE: A FEMININE JOY
This session will explore the unique and magical world of sculptress and feminist icon; Niki de Saint Phalle. Known for her house-sized walk-in-woman piece where visitors were invited to enter the exhibition through an enormous Vagina, to her gloriously joyful sculptures, usually depicting colourful fat women, Saint Phalle was at the Vanguard of feminist art in the … As well as her sculpture practice, she also drew, created a suite of tarot cards and even an incredible sculpture garden filled with figures from her imagination.
This class will offer a brief history of Saint Phalle’s practice before diving in to a series of drawing exercises based on her amazing sculptures and drawings. Expect joyful ness, imagination and an all round fun feminist drawing session!
YOU WILL NEED:
Some paper (big or small)
Drawing Implements – pencils or pens, anything you feel comfortable drawing with!
Watercolour (optional)
Felt tip pens (optional)
