Free Abstract Canvas Painting Masterclass with Marcus Aitken
On January 11th at 7.30pm Marcus Aitken and Sculpd will be hosting a free online abstract painting masterclass from his studio in South London. You can join in with the interactive class from home by picking up one of our Abstract Canvas Painting Kits
Free and open to everyone, this one-off class is an incredible opportunity to learn from a master of his craft and create an expressive abstract piece from home while Marcus guides you through the whole process step-by-step.

Marcus is a London-based artist with a gestural style and a distinctive colour palette of swooping teals and bold pinks. He combines layers of distressing and blending to create cutting-edge abstract works. You can view some of his work on his website and Instagram
If you’ve never tried abstract painting before, don’t worry, this is a beginner’s class. Our new all-in-one kit has everything you will need to stretch, paint and hang your own 60 x 80cm abstract canvas inside.
How to join:
1. Register for the free class using the registration link on this page.
2. Head over to the Sculpd store and pick up an Abstract Canvas Painting Kit . You can choose from a choice of three colour palettes: Bold, Pastel and Neutral.
3. A link to join the Zoom class will be emailed to you before the event.
4. Ahead of time, make sure to unpack and assemble your canvas so it is ready to go when the class begins. You can use this video tutorial to help you build your canvas.
5. Get your brushes and painting space ready and tune in from home at 7.30pm. You’ll be able to ask Marcus questions as he guides you through painting your piece step-by-step.
What to expect during the class?
1. Introduction to Marcus Aitken, his style and mindset when approaching a piece.
2. Using your tools, mark-making and layering up (in your practice book!)
3. Complete two small-scale practice studies in the book provided.
4. Scale up to the canvas and create an expressive abstract art piece during the class.
5. Hang your piece using the sticky hooks provided in the kit!
