In this advanced online semester course,  students will learn Rembrandt’s early techniques by creating a reconstruction of his masterpiece Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee from 1633. 
Rembrandt’s Early Techniques
In the early morning of march 18, 1990 Rembrandt’s masterpiece Christ in the Storm on the Sea of Galilee was stolen alongside other priceless works of art from the Isabella Gardner Museum in Boston. This painting is Rembrandt’s only seascape and one of his most accomplished masterpieces. offers the student the opportunity to explore this painting in depth by studying Rembrandt’s early techniques and the materials he used to create this remarkable work of art.

Students can expect to learn the following skills during this workshop.
✓How to stretch, size, and prime a canvas using historical materials.
✓How to work directly with paint to establish the overall narrative composition.
✓How to work with a  monochromatic under-sketch.
✓How to work up the painting with semi-opaque and opaque colors.
✓How to use impasto to create unique visual effects.
✓How to use color to create atmosphere and chiaroscuro.
✓All video demos for this workshop will be recorded in 4k.
